Downtown Palm Springs is currently being transformed at the fringe of iconic Palm Canyon Drive, where Spring Break celebrations were once wild + fun in the 1960s-80s! Don’t you wish you could’ve been there? Am-I-right?!
Take a swanky stroll sans traffic to enjoy world-class designer shopping, art and alfresco dining. The timeless modern design of downtown seeks to bridge the generational gap between hip millennials and Palm Springs devotees. An approximately 20.15-acre master plan crossing Tahquitz Canyon Way + Belardo Road is set to showcase the city as a trendy wellness destination and more!
Art sculptures + a walkable urban experience with welcoming outdoor spaces set the stage for downtown revitalization.
Strengthening the community through social connection is at the heart of the development process.
Phase 1 of the project featured the grand opening of the Kimpton the Rowan Hotel with a rooftop pool + mountain vistas, as well as the construction of retail, restaurant, office and mixed-use space.
According to city plans, Phase 2 expects a grocery store, commercial and residential mixed-use space. Phase 3 looks forward to the Virgin Hotel, commercial and residential mixed-use space. The redevelopment of Town and Country will accompany Phase 4.
A stately downtown park is set to break ground at the end of February 2020. The approximately 1.5-acres located in front of the Palm Springs Art Museum is currently in the design process under official city committees. It will be situated adjacent to a unique historical place, as the Palm Springs Art Museum first opened as the Palm Springs Desert Museum in 1938; the same year the city was founded!
An open setting with flowers and palms will inspire community gathering + peaceful contemplation. The park will house the Albert Frey Aluminaire House and potentially the Forever Marilyn Statue; exemplifying the history + future of Palm Springs!
The Agua Caliente Cultural Museum will grace downtown by 2020. The approximately 5.8-acres will present a community plaza, garden and oasis trail. It will also showcase the Agua Caliente Spa and Bathhouse embodying the spirit of ancient mineral hot springs.
The colorful city offers something for every demographic with a diverse array of shops and restaurants – H&M, Free People, MAC, Johnny Was Corporation, Angeli, Blonde, West Elm and Francesca’s, among others!
